As oxymoronish as it may sound hear me out.
The first week of August is celebrated as the #breastfeedingweek . Why celebrate something as natural as feeding your baby in the first place ? According to the study by UNICEF only 1% of the children are exclusively breast fed upto 6 months of age. There are various factors that impact exclusive feeding in babies but simple familial support can go a long way in facilitating the health of our future generation.

As non-existent as the concept of a father’s role in breastfeeding may sound to Indian families one cannot disagree on its importance
A breastfeeding mother needs and deserves to be fully supported and the support of the father is the key to a successful breastfeeding relationship.
Dear men, this is where we #newmoms need you:
🌺 Setting the family tone: create a positive family atmosphere toward breastfeeding and counsel the grandparents about imposing on decisions like introducing formula everytime a baby cries and has birth spurts. Families no matter how well meaning should understand boundaries with a new mom and her baby.
🌺 Grow up: The baby isn’t replacing your love as a spouse though the mom is engrossed with them now. A father who views a baby’s continual presence as intrusive will subtly undermine breastfeeding. The father who naturally assumes that his baby will accompany the couple to restaurants, movies, dinner parties, and meetings has given breastfeeding his strong endorsement.
🌺Support and Encouragement: Virtually all new mothers experience doubts about their ability to care for a helpless newborn. Breastfeeding mothers harbor additional fears about the adequacy of their milk supply or the correctness of their breastfeeding. It’s important to tell them it’s ok. They are enough.
🌺Extra Help: Dad’s can change diaper they won’t faint. They can feed the baby expressed milk while moms sleep. They can calm down a crying baby when mom is tired and they can give the baby a bath.
🌺 Father hunger: the term given to a new born’s craving for paternal love and bonding. This adversely affects babies emotions and growth.
Dads have 9 months time to prepare for this. Read up and support a new mom in breastfeeding. Go to lactation classes during pregnancy and understand how you can help her. Support even when the mom feels too tired to carry on. Encourage them that is only for a few weeks. Soon they will get the hang of it and are going to ace this job.
This is the best gift you can give your newborn and your wife and it definitely brings the family closer. After all you both have a relationship beyond the baby.
Celebrate that!

You can change the diaper you won’t faint . Haha so true. Breastfeeding is not given all the importance that is due. A new mother who is already full of doubt is made to feel her milk isn’t enough. Very well brought out

Creating a positive atmosphere, above all else, is the key. Be a helpful half instead of demanding the new mom deal with everything.

So true! It becomes the responsibility of a dad too to spend a Lil time with the little one. it makes the bond between the dad-child relation, whereas a new mother also relaxes for some time.
