Influencer Marketing has seen its boom after 2010 and there is much war on social media with terminologies- Who should call themselves a blogger? Well, if you do not have a website/ blog to your brand name you aren’t technically a blogger. You are an Influencer nevertheless. Social media Influencers especially those on Instagram and Youtube have huge potentials to reach audiences and the rate at which they reach is exponentially growing as we speak with billions of new users on these platforms. Major brands perform marketing activities on these platforms and Influencers are able to monetize their pages by working for these brands and creating content. Traditional blogging ranks third to these marketing campaigns after Instagram (85% of marketers prefer this platform) and Youtube. If the social media platforms are so rewarding why have a blog at all?
Is blogging a tradition of the yester years ? Will blogging eventually phase out and Instagram take over completely ?
If you believed the above statements let me warn you of being highly delusional. Here are some pivotal points why blogging will be your wake up call when all else fade. Let me bust a few myths for the millenial generation who take to social media like a child to chocolate.
- Times are changing
This is the most common argument put forward by every Influencer. Times have evolved and everything has become fast and simple. With news available at the touch of our fingertips and concise to a hundred words, with books becoming e books and Alexa guiding our home and preferences- everything is changing. I agree, but also be informed that the social media you invested your energy and time on will change too. Ask the generation of Influencers who concentrated on facebook when Instagram took the world by storm and facebook ended up buying it and ghosting its own app. Ask the influencers on TikTok – when it was banned after the pandemic and they lost their hours of work and hundred thousand followers and had to start from scratch on Instagram Reels.
Your Website is yours. It is like your permanent residence in the virtual world. An address you own and you can brand for yourself. You can design it however you wish- make it as visual or as worded as you like. Make it shoppable or make it a journal. No one dictates how your website operates but you. If you understand your audience well you can tailor make it to their preferences and they will loyally reward you with attention and affection. Your time on your website is worth it because no one can take it away from you. Remember as long as Google lives blogs shall too. As long as you understand SEO (which takes some effort agreed) your website shall be found and read. You can always harness your power as an influencer to drive traffic to your brand- your website instead of promoting a 3rd party app. Be your own Boss.
